If this Happened Anywhere Else in the World!!!!

This is the United Kingdom one of the richest nations on the planet.

This is the United Kingdom where the number of food banks has now increased to over 1000.

This is the United Kingdom where over 600,000 families are dependent on food banks to feed their families.

This is the United Kingdom where over 1.5 million people are living in fuel poverty.

This is the United Kingdom where over 1 million people who have been forced into ‘unpaid work’ are included in the ’employment figures’.

I could go on but am I the only one who if faced with those responsible who seem to think what they are doing is amusing would find it difficult not to thump them.

I predict that civil disobedience will hit the streets this summer and those that are already being demonised by the Conservative – Liberal Democrat Government will be further demonised and their actions taken as confirmation of their worthlessness.

Shouldn’t we all be ashamed, angry and disgusted that we have people who have to present themselves to what are called ‘referral agencies’ and who after assessment are given a voucher to go and collect a ‘food parcel’?

Doesn’t it remind you of the prisoners of war waiting for Red Cross parcels to arrive?

This isn’t the Great Escape.

It’s real life in 21st Century Britain, though it may not be real life but just an existence for many.

Is this the ‘Big Society’!!!!

Big Society, "Are you proud that families are having to beg for food"?
Big Society, “Are you proud that families are having to beg for food”?

Of course the ‘success’ of the food banks depend on the support from the local community who donate food so that it is available for distribution to those assessed as being in need.

How can we be proud of having to provide 3 days food to people who are in such a crisis situation that they have to go cap in hand to a food bank?

All of who fall into one of the categories of being either, elderly, people with mental health issues and/or social difficulties, people on low incomes and the hidden working poor

These aren’t people who are scroungers, skivers the shiftless and worthless that the Government continually tell us are bankrupting the Nation, but our neighbours for crying out loud.

And I’ll wager that many of them in their desperation do cry, but probably silently and alone when their children are in bed.

Three days of food is effectively the ‘ultimate crisis parcel’ it is nine meals; yes that’s NINE meals or three breakfasts, three dinners and three teas plus toiletries.

How bad is it that we have to provide families with toilet paper?

If families in crisis need ongoing support families they can be issued with a one week parcel which can be provided for up to eight weeks providing they undergo regular needs assessments.

I find it difficult to imagine what it must be like to effectively have to ‘beg’ for food.

How can we be proud of the fact that we now have an organisation called the Northamptonshire Food Poverty Network?

The answer of course is we cannot and should not be proud of having to have such organisations or to have food banks.

The face and attitude of those responsible for increasing poverty in Britain today
The face and attitude of those responsible for increasing poverty in Britain today

It is shameful and disgraceful and no more so than the fact that the situation has been deliberately created by a Conservative – Liberal Democrat Government hell-bent on dividing society.

What we can be proud of is the number of people who have a conscience and care for their neighbours by donating to the food banks and the people and organisations who run them.

It is the public who will decide who are worthless no tmillionaire politicians
It is the public who will decide who are worthless not millionaire politicians

Here’s a thought for those who do donate,

When you go into the polling station at the next election imagine that an item you have donated has a ‘x’ on the bottom of it which has been inked and put the cross in a box alongside those who will resolve the issue and not those who have caused it.

They will then perhaps understand that people in this Country do care for each other and that it is the politicians who have plunged millions into the misery of poverty who are in fact the scroungers and worthless members of society.
